Chahut et prodiges
The bottle is mightier than the pen! Working as a wine journalist in Paris, Gregory Leclerc decided that he'd rather make wine than write about it. He took the plunge in the mid-2000s, setting up Domaine Chahut et Prodiges in the hamlet of Chargé, just outside of Amboise in the Touraine region of the Loire Valley. A tumultuous, but prodigious move!
Greg’s wines express both his adventurous personality, and the rich and complex terroir of his beloved Loire Valley, where grapes grow in symbiosis with a plethora of trees, flowers, and wildlife. Laying down roots in his native region, a stone’s throw from the mythical river, Greg works with vines that are thirty to over sixty years old, embodying a profound sense of place. He tends them organically, harvests manually, and vinifies naturally with as few interventions as possible. For Greg, winemaking is about being true and transparent to the land and to his values. In his cellar, which he shares with partner in life and in wine Anne Paillet, he treads very gently, avoiding racking, pumping over, filtering or fining. Bursting with fruit and flavour, these wines are the embodiment of passionate commitment, patient labour, and well-honed skill.
Tête de Gondole - 2021
Chenin with notes of pineapple and honeysuckle. Deep golden hue, comforting round texture balanced by a perfect touch of acidity.
Coup de Canon - 2021
“Coup” for drink and “canon” for a highly drinkable bottle. This is a smashing Grolleau, displaying a light red colour, aromas of pepper and nasturtium, and a silky texture that absolutely envelopes the mouth. Wild strawberry bomb. Boom!
